The Federal Government’s decision to withdraw the
wholesale funding guarantee will have little impact on ME Bank customers. The safety net for
customer deposits of savings up to $1 Million, remains in
place until October 2011.

This month we have 3 copies of the DVD
'Chevolution' to give away!
In 1960, Cuban
photographer Alberto “Korda” Díaz captured a photo of Ernesto
“Che” Guevara during a mass funeral. History conspired to
enable this dynamic portrait to explode on the world scene in
1968 throughout Europe and Latin America, when it became an
international symbol of protest and dissent. In the last
decade, with the establishment of the Internet, the image has
once again traveled the globe in many forms. From protest to
commerce, it is constantly transformed and reinvented. It is
considered to be the most reproduced image in the history of
photography.
Chevolution is a film
about a photograph. It explores how the Che image travelled
from Korda’s studio in Havana to the streets of Europe and
beyond.
Competition – Member Connect
has 3 copies to give away to 3 lucky union members. Simply

The challenge for this conference is how to build
on the success of the last decade to build capacity and grow -
to win industry campaigns, activate our base, engage the
broader community to build strength.
The conference
will provide a forum for organisers, campaigners, educators
and leaders to share ideas and learn from each other and hear
from local and international speakers from within the union
movement and community organisations.
The conference
will showcase the latest successful approaches to growing and
building union power in workplaces and across industries.

Australian workers will suffer cuts to their pay
and conditions and lose protection from unfair dismissal under
Liberal leader Tony Abbott’s plan to bring back WorkChoices,
warns a new national union TV ad campaign. The new ads herald
the beginning of a major effort by unions to remind
Australians of the damage caused by WorkChoices and the risk
of a return to the Liberals in the federal election due this
year.
“We want to make sure the public is aware of
Tony Abbott’s commitment to hardline industrial relations
policies,” said ACTU President Sharan Burrow.
“Tony
Abbott was a key Minister in the former Liberal Government
that introduced WorkChoices.
“Now, he wants to bring
it back. He just won’t call it WorkChoices,” said Ms Burrow.
At a recent meeting with business executives, Mr
Abbott said he will remove protection from unfair dismissal
for workers in small business and bring back individual
contracts – two basic features of WorkChoices.
